New Gibson SG Guitars Debut at 2006 NAMM Print E-mail

new_models2006(2-2006)
Utilizing innovative designs while drawing on the rich history of the company, the new guitars include the genre-specific Menace models, the high-performance GT line and the beautiful and functional Goddess series.

Designed to encourage and meet the needs of female guitarists, the Goddess is a high-quality, professional guitar with a lighter body and slimmer neck. With lightweight designs and fast-action necks, the models feature powerful 490R and 498T humbuckers for all the performance and tone that Gibson is known for. Comfortable, beautiful, and powerful, the Goddess will prove to be an exciting new option for all players.

Made by musicians for musicians, the SG-GT is tough, road-ready, and versatile. Built to maximize the tonal options available to a working guitarist, the GT features push/pull pots on coil-split 490R and 498T humbuckers, independent volume controls in the middle position, and a high-pass tone filter. Add to that sonic palette a dual truss rod with extra neck reinforcement, a Neutrik™ jack lock, and Dunlop strap locks, and the GT proves to be one of the most durable and adaptable guitars ever built.

Fans of glam rock and metal will love the stark, punishing New Century and Menace series. They feature the high-powered 490R and 498T humbuckers. The New Century SG is complete with full-faced mirror pickguards to catch stage lights. At the other end of the spectrum are the none-more-black SG Menaces, with brass knuckle and fist inlays and tribal body routings. Both series offer total performance instruments for the most extreme players.

NONE MORE BLACK

By Eddie Gray (5-10-2005)

It is appropriate that the SG electric guitar is closely associated with Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi. What could be a more fitting guitar for the master of evil riffs than a guitar with devil's horns on its body?

Unfortunately, the price of Gibson's Tony Iommi Signature SG is so high, only those in league with the devil can afford it. (Must be those 11 sterling silver cross inlays that elevate the price to $5,905.) So Iommi turned to Epiphone, Gibson's budget-conscious little brother, with instructions to make a comparable SG that the average head-banger can afford. The result is a rock-solid player that doesn't scrimp on features or tone.

Vintage G-400 - Why Is This Guitar Shaking Up The Industry? Print E-mail

VG400WCtop

In the early '60's Gibson came up with a radical new guitar to inject a shot of adrenaline into the Les Paul line. They named the new guitar SG which stood for Solid Guitar, which is one of the biggest inside jokes in the guitar industry....sort of like saying Angus Young and Tony Iommi are just solid guitarists!

Now Epiphone offers a faithful reproduction of the classic Gibson guitar in a vintage finished, affordable package! One run up the 22 fret neck of the Vintage G-400 and you'll be hooked! The "Worn" finish gives the instrument the look and feel of the originals and the high-output designed in the U.S.A. pickups complete the hard rockin', vintage vibe! Check it out below:

Presenting The New Inspired By Robby Krieger SG from Gibson Custom Print E-mail
Gabriel J. Hernandez | 04.23.2009

KriegerSG-1

Great guitarists play what they feel. They play what their hearts tell them to and they leave everything else for other people to worry about. That kind of connection to an instrument doesn’t happen very often, but it’s one that comes natural for Robby Krieger, who made history as lead songwriter and guitarist for The Doors. From 1965 to 1971, Krieger and The Doors created a body of music that redefined American rock and roll at its core. Today, their songs remain some of the most influential and original ever written. Much of that writing happened with Krieger’s legendary Gibson SG, which was along for every stop along the Doors’ exhilarating ride to the top.
