The New SG Raw Power Print E-mail

raw-power_LP-lineup_smThe new SG Raw Power from Gibson USA adds another dimension to Gibson’s most popular model of all-time. Everything about the SG Raw Power still screams SG. But take a closer look at the new colors, the new upgrades – and the new nice price – and you’ll see it’s more desirable than ever before. Above all, the most inspired design in guitar-making history is now available in solid maple. It creates a fresh, brilliant tone previously unheard of from a standard SG. And for the first time the SG is available with a three-piece solid maple neck, topped with a maple fingerboard.  The SG’s signature look also gets a facelift with a new palette of satin nitro finish colors, and a pair of Gibson’s ’57 Classic humbucker pickups gives it a brand new power plant. Legendary “PAF” tone in a totally contemporary format. It’s one of the most distinct sounding SGs you’ll ever hear.

NAMM 2008 and Gibson's Summer JAM Print E-mail

Things are really looking up around here. Gibson invited us to be their guests at the 2008 Summer NAMM and their 2008 Summer JAM which included an inside look at the Custom Shop, several new SG models, Johnny Winter, Slash and more!  While in Nashville we also visited the Gibson Store and got to see all the current production models of SGs. On a side trip we even got to play a 1961 SG/LP with the side pull vibrola and let me tell you that guitar was almost heaven. For an in-depth review and lots of pictures check out our Forum and Photo Gallery located in the Forum.

Solid Gone: Great SG Players Print E-mail

cover_tn(2-2006)
It's funny, but of all the great guitarists ever to play an SG, very few stuck with the model throughout a full career... save for Angus Young and Tony Iommi, of course. Of those who jumped ship, it's also odd how their adoption of an SG coincided with some of the best playing of their careers. Santana, Townshend, Mick Taylor... did swapping to a Yamaha or a Les Paul really lift their playing to another level? We would venture that it did not, but hey, there's always time to change back again. But discarding such idle speculation, we here offer a list - in no particular order, mind – of some of the greatest SG players to strut their way upon life's wide stage. Disagree? Of course you do. Write to us, and tell us who we should have included...
