We'll just need to disagree on this one. The old tuners were crap. Supposedly they were 14:1 but when I turned them I could feel that for the first bit the gears were shifting position without actually turning the post at all. The new tuners are 18:1 and I can feel that the tiniest movement of...
I wouldn't make such a blanket statement. My Epi G-310 (made in China in '08) wouldn't stay in tune for a minute. I changed the nut, it got a little better. I changed the tuners and now it stays in tune just fine. So, not all Epi tuners are just fine. I suppose that the more recent tuners are...
Another option is the Lock-It straps. Other brands have similar ideas, but I have a Lock-It strap on one of my guitars. And yes, it locks really well on a very normal strap button. Sweetwater has them, but I suppose they are available elsewhere...
Agreed. My point is that someone who is just learning to play needs to hear their mistakes so they can learn to fix them. The beginning is not the time to get bogged down with peddles and amps. Also, many people who are just learning to play don't have the budget for expensive amps. So again...
If you want the sound of certain pickups, find a pawn shop beater. Buying a good guitar with good pickups for the purpose of changing the pickups doesn't make sense to me. But then, maybe that's just me.
Glad to see you found Justin Guitar. I really like the organization of his website and his explanations of what to learn, how to proceed and why.
Don't worry about gear yet. You've got a good guitar so that's what counts now. Make sure that your hands learn how to make good tone before you...
The pickups in my Epi SG G-310 were real muddy. I tried adjusting pickup height, but wasn't hearing what I wanted, so I replaced them with Seymour Duncan Jazz Neck and SD 59/Custom and added coil splitting pots. I love the variety, clarity and jazz tones. Not exactly what people think an SG...
I find it interesting that there are different sizes of posts and holes, etc. But I guess that I shouldn't be surprised. But like I said, I'm learning a lot here.
I didn't measure the holes in my SG because the posts fit perfectly. but I did measure the old parts and compared those to the...
Apologies I haven't checked in for a while = too busy with end of the year bookkeeping, etc.
