Double NGD - New Member - What did I buy 😅

Welcome to the forum. Now post up some pictures! FWIW my 2015 Standard is the Les Paul 100th one, Les Paul Signature and a Les Paul.hologram sticker on the back of the headstock, under the lacquer.

Why do some players hate Gibson so much?

Perhaps if GC carried a few Flying Vs they might sell a shed load more.

The All New Not A Real Flying V Build Thread

My all black MSG pickups have been running late, but Dean finally shipped them today. As a "sorry they're late" one pickup is apparently coming in a box autographed by some German geezer...

The All New Not A Real Flying V Build Thread

Question: I'm still waiting for an all black set of pickups to arrive from Dean. They were ordered on May 2nd, but still haven't arrived. I have a black/cream set, which won't look right in a black/white paint job. I'm planning on saving those for the next one. I have a black/white neck...

My factory 2015 SG has zero shielding and is a quiet as a mouse. Maybe the finish they were using is conductive anyway, or maybe all the controls and toggle switch being in one spot, with no long wires from the pots to the switch, is the reason? I don't know, but certainly shielding the wires...

Didn't Jerry Lee Lewis have a hit about that?

Lest we forget. Nitrocellulose is 20th century CAR PAINT. It was outlawed globally at some point in the 90s because the solvents were, allegedly, destroying the ozone layer. The solvents also do pretty nasty things to human lungs, I believe. Anyway, it was used by Fender etc. back in the 50s...

Why do some players hate Gibson so much?

Time has yet to tell what happens to poly-whatever-it-is over time. And I thought the "cool" thing was to buy a new instrument that's been professionally beaten up anyway?

Why do some players hate Gibson so much?

I wonder if Gibson will "sponsor" me to produce a lot of "why I won't buy Fenders/Gretsches/PRSs/Squiers...." videos on youtube ?

Why do some players hate Gibson so much?

It's all the fault of that geek from Lubbock, Texas. Ever since he appeared on the Ed Sullivan show playing a [warning - sensitive readers look away now] Stratocaster...

Back on subject... I fitted my shielded switch wiring to the LP this afternoon, and I'm pleased to say it has significantly reduced the hum. Not entirely eliminated it, but down to a level that I can't differentiate it over my Marshall Origin50's regular "yeah they all do that" background noise.

Domestic supply used to be 240 volts RMS 50 Hz, single phase. The Europeans used to run at 220 volts RMS, also 50 Hz. In some parts of Europe, if you want more than 20 kW, you have to have a 3 phase supply, broken out in the breaker box. At some point in the late 80s or early 90s, the UK was...

My paternal grandfather was in the RAF from near the end of WW2 until 1936. He did two long tours overseas, one dropping bombs on Iraq, the other dropping bombs on Afghanistan. Go figure. At some point I think he must have contracted malaria, because even in summer he'd sit next to a burning...

Two cord bundles made up, ready to go in. One for the Epi LP, one for my P90 thinline. I've dispensed with the switch ground wires, just adding "talis" soldered to the sheathing. Heat shrink was put over the ends to smooth things out for pulling through and to stop the braided fraying.

Going completely off on a tangent... Are you old enough to remember when builders put electric fires on the wall over bathtubs? I remember my parents buying a brand new house around 1970, which had one. My dad, then a young, now a retired, industrial HVAC and building services engineer, took...
