    Nut Width on Modern SGs

Oh, absolutely! I do apologize if I came off like I was projecting my preference onto you! That said, whereas I do like the wider SG neck, I transition pretty seamlessly between that, my thicker Les Paul neck, my Strat, my thin Jackson neck, and even the thick - but narrow - neck on my ‘74...

    Nut Width on Modern SGs

Personally, I love the wider neck.

Using The Pickup Configuration’s That Guitars Are Coming With.

I installed phase switching in a Les Paul that I built up from a husk several years ago. It was interesting. I eventually sold the guitar, but it did give a cool sound for some applications.

Using The Pickup Configuration’s That Guitars Are Coming With.

Just a hint, every time the term "coil tap" is used in reference to a humbucking pickup, the term is being misused. The term "coil split" is the correct term in such cases. It's quite amazing how often even guitar manufacturers get these sorts of technical details wrong in their literature...

Using The Pickup Configuration’s That Guitars Are Coming With.

I like to use coil splitting on a neck pickup to get a light, airy, clean sound. I will usually roll the tone back just a touch and and add a bit of chorus and delay. But, I don't really use it with distortion or overdrive as that gives it a harsh quality. I use it clean. It does have...

Why are new SG Standards up in price?

Why are SGs going up in price? I can't speak to the specific dynamics of their pricing, but literally everything is going up in price. Vendors are starting to send me quarterly price sheets with updated prices. I used to get them annually. Delivery and lead times are very long, too.

What is your favorite guitar ?

The pickups in my Falcon are FilterTrons; though, Gretsch does use TV Jones brand in some of their models. A TV Jones is a replica of the vintage FilterTron. One way to think about it is that Fralin makes a version of PAF pickups. Fralin didn't invent them, but he makes a very good replica...

    Set up question

D'Addario makes a .017 wound 3rd available in singles. It is D'Addario part number NW017. They are the only company I've found who make one that thin. I buy them in a 5-pack from Juststrings.com. However, the set on my Strat currently is an experimental thing I've been trying. It is a set...

What is your favorite guitar ?

I will say this, though I don't have a "favorite" guitar, the guitar which currently meets my needs and preferences most completely is this one right here: Since acquiring this guitar, I have barely played any of my others as this can ably muster the tones I'm trying to achieve. It also...

Same here. Check out this pic. The strings pass right over the string tree. The strings don't pop out, even with vibrato use. Those paying attention in the class will notice the wound 3rd string!

That sounds very rewarding. Did you carve your own rosette? As to the theorbo...yes...that does seem particularly challenging. Though, I do find the videos of them being used to be pretty fascinating. I'm sure you've seen this video:

That's pretty cool, Don! Did you make them with the traditional gut frets? You don't, by any chance, have any pictures of any of the lutes you built, do you?

What is your favorite guitar ?

Favorite guitar? I don't have one. No favorite style of music, no favorite song, no favorite guitar, no favorite food, no favorite color...you get the picture.

    Template/dimensions for locating tailpiece holes

In a way, you're both right. The necks are made, initially, by CNC. Final smoothing is done by belt sander. In the the Premier Guitar video, the comment is made at around 9:01 that the necks are rough cut, but that they still need to be finished off by hand. In the Gibson video that...

Intonation flat on wraparound with no travel left

You can use third-party image editing programs to reduce file size. I use paint.net. I have found that if I reduce an image made with a modern smartphone to 20% of its original size, I never have a hard time uploading an image. You can do the same thing with Paint 3D on Windows computers...

Why do some players hate Gibson so much?

Yes. The OP did also make reference to comments. After reading through a few dozen of them, some are general "I'll never buy another Gibson" statements, but others do make reference to specific issues - some even supporting the observations in the video. I don't see why anyone should take the...
