Thought I'd move this discussion here>>>>>>

Here's the pic of the MK2;

c

It's supposed to be the pedal Page used on the first two Zep albums to make a Tele as fat as a Les Paul! this is a continuation of the discussion started from :

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi folks, Page once said the reason he used a Sola Sound Tonebender, was to make his Tele sound like an LP . I built a SS Tonebender using the old germanium transistors, gotta say, It does get that ZepI sound! Does'nt sound so good with Buckers though,All in all you can dissect every guitar made till yer dizzy with details, in the end it's the tone that matters if ya like it play it, even if you only play one note play it like ya mean it!!

Should really pull this into the effects section but since were here already.......

Cj, I asked a friend from Guildford, Surrey, UK, who's a big amp dealer about if Page used a Mk1, MK2 or MK3 because MK2 is what I thought he used. Paul then said call me back in an hour? 45 minutes later he calls me back and says your right? I said how do you know? He said he just took a walk down the street, knocked on the door, Page answered, and I asked him!
So two weeks later I find a box from Paul in the mail and what's inside it?

tttttt

A Vox Tonebender but under that black line is an easy to see Sola Sound ltd raised printing > I guess they made them for Vox and just crossed their name out! Says on the board too. Three germanium's Not sure about the MK3 yet, but have files somewhere on all of them. Can't locate them....Oh yea, then Paul said just send me $75! Ha!
The original knobs are around somewhere

uuuuuu

There's the bottom----Sounds exactly as you described and has the same exact sound as the Zep 1 and some of Zep 2 albums with a tele! Les Pauls drive the pedal with a bit too much signal and just into mud land,BUT< roll back your controls a little and it SEEMS to work just fine then. The pedal does make a tele stand up with/to a Les Paul........nice and thick.

Enjoy that pedal, like I said, Can't find one here in Florida, if you do, they go for about 300 US . So , I built one (two knobber) Very simple circuit, which is lucky for I am a bear of very little brain.. At the very least I got a sound that no one else in town is getting, and it is noticed! And why else do we play,.. to get noticed! My next quest is a Univox Super Fuzz, like Townshend had in the Live at Leeds era! couple that with some P-90's and it's Young man's Blues HOOP DE DOO!

Voxman;
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Smart enough to build great sounding pedals, huh Cj! Bet you the one you built sounds better that the one above! Super fuzz has been next here too...two versions, the early small blue box and then the various pedal types. They all seem to have a faint metallic ring {modulation?}riding along with the fuzz. Got the circuit diagram around here somewhere.

Vox,

Is there a schematic to the MKII Tone Blender?
I'd like to build one.

Sorry Spunk I think so, I got 3 hard drives floating around this room and it's somewhere on one of them.....I think I coped the info on all three somewhere too!
You'd be able to build one easy and I'd probably sound better than the original= Mullard OC71's ? transistors.
Thats the pic above. I'll look for a schematic, and if you need any info off mine don't hesitate!

Well I found it, here you go-

Here's where I found everything after I searched those hard drives for the files;

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/s.castledine/greenfuz/mk2_cir.html

And just a couple of different values to make a Marshall Supa fuzz with the exact same layout!

http://home.freeuk.net/catto/tonebendermkii.gif

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/s.castledine/greenfuz/mk2_pcb.html

Here's the parts layout:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/s.castledine/greenfuz/mk2_lyt.html

And finally the home page of the Sola/Colorsound Tone Bender! Also a labor of love, wouldn't you say?

Well Spunk that about wraps it up! Now the rest is up to you guys. Just use the same TYPE Caps and you'll be all right!

I have a Colorsound SupaTonebender (1973) and it too can be dialed in for the zep sound. Very aggressive pedal with a godly amount of gain/fuzz on tap.
