I’ve been very much enjoying my 64 Reissue and had been checking out a Junior at my local L&M. After a few trips back and forth, I finally caved and grabbed it. Well, an SG with a single P90 blew me away, but I also really love the punch of a neck P90, so I grabbed a 63 Reissue Special, too!

So now I have a trio…

What’s the electric hanging above your SV20H?

Very nice guitars, enjoy them! Your putting thoughts in my head with the Junior, Special, Standard trio. Been trying to find a good justification to buy another SG, now it can be, "I don't have a Junior or a special."

Now that I’ve got them, I can say they are different enough to have both. The Special is a little more refined and that neck pickup is sweet, while the Junior is a straight rock beast. I’ve got it in open G right now for some Black Crowes and Stones tunes we’re playing. It sounds great!

Has the junior SG got a smooth tailpiece, or a compensated one ?

Gibson seem to release different Junior models over the years , maybe some are Custon Shop and others the cheaper model line.

While I love the stop tailpiece Gibson models I prefer the smooth tailpiece, being a perfectionist nerd I find the compensated tailpieces have a lousy radius that doesn't match the fretboard radius leading to the D G B strings being too high.

The Junior and Special both have the “lightning bar” style tailpieces. I haven’t felt an issue with the action of the middle strings so far, but will have to check that as I do my inevitable tweaking.

Maybe it is "I need another SG to partake of the entire sonic range of this fine instrument." Just a thought.

Very cool. Hadn’t checked them out until now. Definitely on my radar, how do you like it?
It’s a very nice guitar. It has the fattest neck of all of my electric guitars, so sometimes takes a while to adapt when I first grab it, but it plays really well. The pickups are Vineham Old Dog P90s and they sound great through my Marshalls and my Fender. Obviously not as comfortable to ply as an SG, but it’s a sweet guitar.
