Here's the link to the fake Gibson site - lots of good stuff on those "fakers" out there...

http://fibsons.com/category/sg/

This will take you to the SG section, but be sure to look at the other fake models as well.

"Buyer beware"!

Thats a good site. Thanks for sharing it. I have a friend who got burned on a counterfeit Gibson Les Paul Standard. He paid $1200 for it!! He did not believe me that the hardware was all wrong, the nut was plastic, t had a maple neck, it had a scarf headstock and horridly routed cavities. To this day he still insists that it must have been a "factory second" or something.

I told him to never sell it as a real Gibson, now that I told him it was a fake. The worst part is that another friend of his who is "a professional luthier" sold it to him.

Wanna see it? -> http://www.lespaulforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=161858

Thanks for posting this. I think Gibson should get a stake in this and start prosecuting... this stuff just isn't right. :-\

At least SGs aren't so easy to copy. Fake SGs are always laughably bad. Yet another reason why SGs are better than LPs!

That tailpiece never came on any stock SG. See where they notched out the pickguard with dikes to accommodate the metalwork. Did the guy have the paint leftover from his 66 GTO repaint?

I don't think so. With so much goop on the peghead, you can't see if strip tuners were ever in place.

As for that SG, I'm gonna say it's a refin, but I'm by no means an expert on vinatge SGs. My point was referring to Chinese counterfeits. I'm guessing if that is a copy, it's a modified Japanese copy or a Gibson reissue.

FYI, the images above are on electricguitardiscount.com, which is making my copy of avast! go gaga nutso, pointing out it is a malicious URL. I didn't really do any further digging, but, like I said...FYI.

Yeah, the antivirus on my computer flagged the images by Biddlin as well.

Finally! Yup it's a fake! made on a CnC from a scan of the real one. SGs or any other guitar are incredibly easy to fake. BTW, my AVG didn't alert on it. Gotta check that out.

AVG misses quite a bit. I dropped it when they made some heavy duty changes years ago. avast! may not catch it all, but it seems to do a pretty good job.
