I got my first SG on Saturday in a trade. It's an SG Classic from 2002. I'm really enjoying this guitar. Sounds great and feels amazing.

welcome aboard hippietim! nice p90s! looks like you did pretty well! what did you trade for it?

Indirectly it cost me a Variax 500 that I paid $499 for. I traded that to a guy for a Fender Deluxe Reverb.

The Deluxe Reverb arrived and the tremolo didn't work. It sounded ok otherwise but wasn't likely to be a keeper even after the repairs.

I took the DR to a local repair/music shop. After the ticket was written up for the amp, I got to playing some guitars he had hanging and found that I had played the SG for about a half hour while chatting.

So I jokingly asked if he'd trade me for the DR. He thought for a minute and then said sure.

Now I know the DR is worth more than the SG, but it was going to cost me $75 to get the opto-whatever replaced and probably another $75 in caps and tubes. The guy I did the original trade with was going to pony up the cash for the tremolo repair but I figured I'd still be out $75 for the other servicing and I'd end up with an amp that I'd be wanting to flip.

So to wind up a long-winded story, you know what I did :)

Oh, I did make him kick in a really nice cable with a right angle end :)

Keep in mind the trem on a Fender wont work unless the foot switch is in place.... or a shorting plug is there instead. Reverb works either way, with or without a switch.

Thanks for the welcome folks. I'm a long time Les Paul, Tele, and Jackson player. I've had a desire to get an SG for a while - I'm liking it.

I'm aware of that, the pedal was there and working fine.

One question about this Classic, is it the same guitar that is being sold on Musician's Friend now?

Yup, from your photo, it looks identical to my new SG CLASSIC.

Bound neck
Dot inlays

I'd say so.

Mine came with one of those nasty gig bags and if you got
a hard case with yours, you made out dude!

Hell, you made out any way!
