I work in a large hospital, so needless to say... Overtime isn’t just easy to come by, it’s completely unavoidable. So I’m thinking it’s time to update my rig with a new toy. I’m currently running a Klon KTR into my Boss GT-1 into a Marshall DSL40C. I really like the off-clean tone of the crunch channel, so I’d like to stack another pedal into or after the Klon to get a tighter high gain tone (the Klon can almost get me there, but the last 25% of the drive dial gets a little rough). I have a budget of $100 USD. Some that I’ve been looking at:

  • EHX Crayon.
  • Nobles ODR Mini.
  • Ibanez Tubescreamer Mini.
  • EarthQuaker Devices Plumes.
And as for different kinds of Distortions...
  • Joyo Uzi
  • EHX Russian Big Muff
I could also be talked into just about any other kind of OD. This is just for fun. Anybody have any experience with these or have any recommendations?

What I think works best is an EQ pedal to boost your signal just that bit more you need and will thicken up your tone. I like the Boss GE-7, I set all the sliders in the middle and set the level up one notch, its perfect to bump you a bit further and thicken your tone without coloring your original tone. I highly recommend it! :yesway:

Plumes. Best OD I've ever used. It's a TS based pedal but has 3 very usable modes including a boost mode that could stack well with another pedal. Also at $99 it holds it's own against any $200+ I've tried.

There are several booster type pedals like the TC Spark. Here is a pedal in that style that is worth considering, theMXR Timmy.

There are plenty of youtube videos.

Bass, Treble, gain, volume, and three position gain switch. This is not a higher gain OD style pedal - at least the way I use it.

This pedal stacks well with other OD's.
I use it with a DLS to fill in the highs.

Will push the amp.
I've got three amps and works wonders with all three either to brighten up the amp, tighten bass and or give a slight push.

While. I don't own one, I'd like to suggest the Wampler Pantheon which is a versatile Blues Breaker style with some plenty of gain and nice sounds.
