New bass day! Just picked up a 1963 Gibson EB-0 from the post office. As far as I can tell it is completely stock. Nice and chunky neck, bakelite cover on the pickup (came on the EB-0s from 1961 until early 1963). Just gave it a cleaning and a quick setup and it plays and sounds great. Has the classic EB oomph! Even my wife is happy with this one!

I gave it a new set of roundwounds, because that was the only thing I had on hand. I want to put some flatwounds on there, but I have to wait because my local shop was out of flatwound short scale strings. The strings it came with were really old and in a rather bad condition. It sounds pretty damn good, and I was pleasantly surprised by the intonation.

Yep, that pic is with the old strings. The new ones are in the headstock pic.

I need an amp for the bass as well, and just scored a 1967/68 Selmer Treble n Bass 50W head on ebay. Very reasonably priced. Now I just need a decent 1X12 cab for home use. The Selmer doubles as a guitar and bass amp, so I’ll likely be selling my Vox AC30, which has not been used since I got my Gibson GA-20.

As someone else mentioned on the thread, you are ready to be Jack Bruce's replacement on the next Cream reunion your (now they just need a replacement for the great Ginger Baker as well). They are pretty cool amps, yes! Underappreciated, I guess. Rumor has it that Paul Kossoff used a Selmer T n B 50W for the studio version of "All Right Now". I don't know if that's true, but I like to think it is.

Got the Selmer head yesterday. It has an echo in/out loop, can I plug my reverb pedal into it like it was an effects loop?

Hopefully that will work with any effects box, although it is kind of far along the signal chain, so the signal levels may prove too high and cause overload.
