Very nice!
I have the Pelham blue and the Ebony relatives of yours.
Such nice guitars, winning year for sure!

Very nice! I have the same guitar (model and year) incoming myself. I will do the knob swap of course, that’s a no-brainer.

I’m also thinking to swap the tuning machines for vintage style Grovers.

Are there any must-do hardware swaps for this guitar? Bridge conversion? Aluminum tailpiece? Is the wiring soldered by hand or PCB on this guitar?

The only "must do" items are, number one proper set up to see what you have, and after that are items needed to fix any deficiencies that show up after a few weeks or month of significant play to get the most out of it. If you "read the internets" you will get the impression that there is a laundry list that everyone must do. That simply isn't the case. Everyone has different needs and desires that can be addressed with modifications, but not everyone will want or need the same thing in the end. Your best results will come from fixing only the things that need fixing, and you will spend way less money. :D

PCB, I guess. It's all stock besides the knobs. I dig vintage style tuning machines too!

Yes I was asking more generally about the 2017 Standard since I’m expecting mine. It seems they were PCB wired from the factory. I’ll take a look when I get the guitar.

I did go ahead and order the vintage style Grover tuning machines, and I’ll probably get an aluminum tailpiece, reflector knobs and maybe some pointers. I never tried pointers until recently and I find them more useful than I thought I would.

I hope mine is as nice looking and complete as yours but I doubt it. Yours is a real gem. Cheers!

Thanks and roger all that. I’m doing the Grover vintage style tuners and an aluminum tailpiece and some other cosmetic stuff but I’ll definitely hold off on any other hardware swaps. Setup and evaluation will be priority.

Edit:I just realized the stock 2017 tailpiece should be aluminum already. No need to replace that!

2017 SG Std is an SG Standard body shape with a small pickguard, very good compromise IMO. The Cherry is great, not orange like the Standard '61.
Very good choice

If you didn' t order the tuners look at the Schaller G Seies double ring

Do you think they’re better than the Grovers? I already got some but I got them Amazon open box so there’s no problem retuning them.

The Schaller are better than the Gibson Deluxe and if you want a nice vintage style prefer the Schaller with double ring. But the best are the KLUSON Revolution, lighter, precision, ratio, smooth knobs.

These Japanese Gotoh's are as good or better than anything presented here and weigh less than Grovers and the Kluson Revolutions. They feature non tilting string posts and some of the tightest gearing around. Used by many boutique builders. One of the few tuners you can actually lower to pitch and it's in tune. No slop whatsoever.

I can't compare them to the Kluson Revolutions, but I would take these Gotoh tuners over Grover any day of the week. Absolutely top shelf stuff! :dude:

Only problem you have to drill extra holes. They do have Grovers with the old style head that are a screw in replacement.
