Sellers description: "I have a 2004 Gibson SG Special Faded for sale. It is an earlier model, with the super rare ebony fretboard with the crescent moon inlays. It has 490R and 490T pickups, and sounds great.

I contacted him with interest, and he said the SG is in pretty good shape. No major work at all. But it needs a toggle switch.

I'm suppose to meet up with him on Sunday. Price is tempting. I've never seen one in person, yet. I think the Moons are cool. I know there's at least a couple members here who have one of these... What say you?????????

What's the neck like?
Very comfortable! :D
The fingerboard feels slick and lovely.
I sanded the back of my neck to 320 grit and it feels perfect to me.

It's not a slim taper neck, more like a 50's profile. Great for both chords and lead.

BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT!

Well.... at least go try it out!

Waiting till Sunday was the sellers choice. I wish I could do this tomorrow, on Saturday. At that price he should be getting some other interested buyers by Sunday, too.

I need another guitar like I need a hole in my head. Then again, it's getting a little stuffy in there...

You can survive. If all is good with this guitar ( and I'm sure it will be) you'd be crazy to let it slip through your fingers. You already know how much I love mine. It's my number one!

Good luck! It looks nice. Sure, it's missing the poker chip and a reflector on the knob but it' looks like a good deal to me!

I totally agree. The ad is still up, as it should be until it's sold. I fear that if more potential buyers express interest, that the seller will go into "auction" mode. I hope that at least I get a chance to actually demo it. Don't want to get into texting bidding wars. It's hard to determine what kind of person the seller is, but in the few words that have been exchanged via texting, I haven't noticed anything negative.

nice guitar
Yeah, I think so, too. Funny that I found a few 5 - 10 year old posts in other forums that the former owners of the Moon inlays SG's got rid of them because of the inlays. Oh well... 40 years ago, I couldn't stand listening to Bowie!!!!! WTF was I thinking of back then?

Looks like I might need to drive up there and pick that up. Just kidding. Seriously though, get it. I thought this was only offered mid to late 2002 though? I love the ebony fretboard and the satin feel. To give you an idea most people are trying to sell these for more than they were worth new. I've been watching a few ads online and prices are anywhere from $750-1000.

This is an amazing deal for a moon inlay faded at this price with that case despite that broken switch. I'd ask for a cut in price because of the switch as a matter of principle but would not let it stop this from happening should the seller balk & stand firm on the $400. Compared to what Gibson Faded's that are out there & the prices they are selling for, there is no doubt in my mind that this is about as good a deal as you are going to find. In fact, I just went through ebay listings the other day looking at low end Gibsons (price wise) for a possible present for someone & if I had seen this for $400 + reasonable shipping it would not be available right now! I would grab this one brother Sysco!

Seal the deal brother & best of luck with everything. Remember, public place with lots of peoples around.

I have both the SG, and the V with the crescent moon inlays.
Fantastic guitars, both of them.
My SG version has a nice, full feeling, comfortable neck. The fretboard is nice, and smooth feeling too.
I just did a fall set up on it, and it has gone up towards the front of the pack when I go to grab a guitar.

That one you posted looks like a heck of a deal.:thumb:

. I thought this was onlyoffered mid to late 2002 though?

According to my serial number mine is from January 2003. I seem to remember the later 03's still had the ebony fingerboard but with dot inlays. Either way it's still a good deal if Syscokid likes it.

I though so, too at first. After some researching, I actually found at least one with the Moons with a 2003 serial number. Never found an '04. Serial numbers on this era of Gibson guitars is real easy to read.

That's essentially the same time frame. No worries

I ordered mine in late 2003 and the guitar dater said it is from January of 2003.
I also remember seeing a brand new 2003 in the store around the same time with the ebony fingerboard and dots.

Is the ebony on yours as dark as the one I'm looking at?
