Hi, new member. Got a deal on body/neck SG Standard. Was thinking of Duncan JB in bridge, and either Gibson 57, Burstbucker Pro, or Bare Knuckle Stormy Monday in neck. HOWEVER, I'm going to get a harness with push /pull pots to make both pups single coil/HB. Any thoughts? I play mostly vintage rock, Beatles/Kinks/etc. type originals.

Id say you won't go wrong with either! But I'll let the experts confirm :D

Heard a demo of a set of BK Mules at the Birmingham guitar show earlier this year on the Bare Knuckles stand there - played by the Tiger of Pan Tang guitarist Micky Crystal!

Was impressed with the tone, I'd say it would suit your styles to a tee, but sadly out of my budget at the time - well worth a check out IMHO.

In the past I used the Duncan JB (SH-4) in all my other guitars, but ever since I switched to the SG Special Faded, thought I would leave it stock with the 490’s for a change and ended up liking it. Don’t limit yourself to humbuckers either. I have different SG’s equipped with P-90’s, mini-hums, and humbuckers and like them all.

Keep in mind the pot and cap values on guitar will also affect how pickups sound and most important the amp.

I know people put them down a lot, but every guitar I've ever played with Burstbucker Pros has sounded very sweet clean and pleasingly gnarly when driven. I'd be willing to be to bet you could score a barely-used set for pretty cheap, since people swap these out on the regular for something different.

Don't have much experience with BKP, but I've always felt the SH-4 was kinda "meh." It has a distinctive midrange growl, and if you like it, great! But if not, I find it difficult to dial out. That's just me. It is one of the hotter pickups that also cleans up pretty well too, so it has that going for it.

Found a decent deal on Reverb for a set of Duncans, SH-4 and a 4-conductor version of the neck '59. I'll do some more digging this week. I do like the Burstbucker Pros though, my brother just got a brand new 2016 Paul Standard and it sounds amazing, both pups are coil tapped and one pot does out-of-phase. This is too hard, lol. The Jimmy Page Duncans are out now too, I bet that would make a great neck pup.

How do you like the Special Faded, the body and neck DIY are so reasonably priced.

Duncan JB / 59 combo is classic in an LP.

The SG Special Faded is my favorite to play. I prefer the feel of a satin finish chunky neck. The stock 490's sound fine to my ears.

The harness kit I'm getting has switchcraft, orange drop caps, and 500K pots. I just saw where the new HP SG's are getting push/pulls with coil splitting and out of phase, just like the LP's of 2016.
