That's a remarkably saturated red for Faded Cherry. Usually the Historics are more of an orange-red.

‘88 Greco Mint Collection SG Standard

Originally it must have been a special order similar to the SS63-70 (‘63 Standard w/Vibrola) as it has the vibrola screw holes filled. The other weird part is that it was made with mini-humbuckers then swapped with dogear P90’s which sound great. Only a quick cleanup and new strings so far, might update the pics when I receive the replacement parts; knobs, black p90 covers, truss rod cover.

I am a fan of MIJ and this one isn’t in any catalog that I can find so to me a ‘special’ standard.

Those are full size humbucker routes. I'd say it's most likely an SS63-60 that had a vibrola added and removed at some point.

The catalogs never specified Ebony as a finish option though, so that may have been a special order.

The price was right, so I picked up this used 2005. The previous owner heavily modded it with a strange metallic blue paint job, actually decent Grover tuners, and on another forum I think there is sufficient evidence the neck pu is an 80's dirty fingers. Wiring and soldering job are clean and decent. but they butchered the finish on the headstock. All in all, I like that it is sweaty and I don't need to baby it. I think it was a teeenager playing metal with very high output pickups. I'm still getting to know it and really like it so far.

Yeah a lot more red than the Historics throughout the last years!
