Hello, is it possible for someone to please inform me if they know of a manufacturer of an upright headstock mounting type of guitar stand who verifies that the soft cushioning materials on their stands will not damage alter or change the finish on a Nitrocellulose lacquered guitar. The closest I have been to receiving a definitive answer was when corresponding with Gibson support, unfortunately they don’t ship to the UK. So any advice would obviously be very welcome thank you. G.B.

I use standard stand but I protect the nitro finish with white coton, I had a bad experience with a Flying V, the rubber burned the finish...

String Swing and K&M state that their hangers are safe.
I use Hercules and have never had a problem, but they don’t guarantee anything. I have 47 of them in use right now.

+1 on String swing guitar wall mounts. I've had no trouble with those.

For stands the simplest thing to do is to wrap some soft cotton around the contact
points and glue it in place with E-6000 glue, making sure that the glue joint
is not at a contact point. If you have a girlfriend who sews, or if you sew
yourself, you or she can sew something in place that doesn't need glue.
Soft cotton will protect your guitar.

Crochet will work too, and look artistic. Crochet was invented by sailors
anyway, they made all kinds of things with a hook and some twine when
they were off duty. If you have a girlfriend who can crochet something to
go on your guitar supports, "Bob's yer uncle..."

Then you don't have to fuss about anyone's guarantee.
I don't take much notice of guarantees, personally.

A baby diaper works fine. If that's too mundane of a look for you, then
tie-die the baby diaper. Or use a cotton bandana. Or cut the fingers out
of a pair of cheap cotton work gloves and use those.
For a punk motif, use an old sock. On a couple of my guitar stands
I've used fake fur. it doesn't hurt the guitars.

Do what is possible within your own reach.
Then you are independent of corporate promises, and you can use
the guitar hangers that are available, and not worry.

Because I 'm older than dirt, and I've hauled guitars on the road for decades
I've used a variety of guitar stands. I don't trust any of them. I've replaced the
rubber foam on some of my guitar stands with fuel line tubing sold at auto
parts stores. This causes no problems. The stock foam from the manufacturer
is softer, but the fuel line tubing is chemically stable and will last longer
than your music career.
