I had a Gibson SG Naked 2016 model up until a few weeks ago. That weighed in at around 6lbs 10oz. Now I have a 2020 Gibson SG Jr I picked up last Friday but haven't weighed it yet. I'm guessing around 6lbs. I am curious to see how close I am when I actually weigh it.

reviving this thread again, just picked up an epiphone 1966 sg pro from 2012, weights 6.7 pounds, way lighter than my over 9 pound tele.

Interesting subject in an old thread....
The ones I actually weighed and remember...

1979 SG 'The "SG"' Standard 8 Lbs. 4 ozs.
1984 SG Standard 6 Lbs. 12 ozs.
2017 SG Standard w/Doozy LT-II Tremolo added 7Lbs. 8 Ozs...
2020 SG Standard 5 Lbs 15 Ozs. w/Locking Kluson REVO TM's added
2015 SG 'Special' w/G-FARCE Tuning System...OOPS, Forgot....
***2019 SG 'Original' (LOL?!) /Standard w/Maestro Vibrola, Locking Kluson REVO TM's 7 Lbs. 2 Ozs.*********

for an avg weight of 7Lbs 2 Ozs. +/- .5 Ozs.

*****IDK how GIBSON USA can call the guitar an SG 'Original' when it has a 19TH Fret Neck Joint, NTM the Chrome, not Nickel, Maestro Vibrola instead of Sideways Vibrola.... to me itssa Standard...Of course, GIBSON USA can call the guitar whatever they like.*****

Hands down.....the 2017 SG Standard ('Antonia' AKA 'Tony') being the best SG I ever played, its 'THE ONE'.

As an observation...the newer SG's that i've seen/played and actually put digital calipers on , 2019-2020-2021 models, all hav slightly thinner bodies @ 1.347 inches, on average, which is ever so slightly thinner than the older models I have had (ones that I actually put calipers on and measured) that were 1.375 inches thick (1-3/8") all measurements at the thickest point of the bodies.
I'm no rocket scientist, nor am I an expert on all things "SG" but that must effect the overall weight of the guitars...... and the new 'MODERN' series SG's seem to all be exactly 6 or sub 6 Lb.-ers ...could this be GIBSON USA getting CHEEEP (again) as if they had been in a bankruptcy ? IDK, but GIBSON pulling a CHEEEP-SKATE move would not surprise me in the least...

Hey, we all know the SG and its clones are among the lighter guitars - and some of us like me really like that point - but I'm curious what the range in weight among SG's actually is.

If you know the weight of your SG, please let me know. For example my SG copies weigh 7 lbs 8 oz, and 8 lb. 2 oz.

Thanks in advance.
I just had mine weighed on ups scale. Drrrrrrrrrrr. 6 lb. 2.4 oz. But, it is a 68 reissue sg jr. With ebony fretboard and one p90 and wrap around tailpiece. Love it!!! Made in august 2000. Summer of love!

Had a 6lb 7oz, 2022 Gibson SG Standard 61’. Saw the opportunity to grab same model/year SG but at 7lb’s 11 oz for just a trade in under the store warranty. Idc what anyone says. The heavier ones sound better to me. The 6lb one just felt to light. Really happy with the resonance of newer one. What actually makes them heavier if they have around the same humidity coming from the new USA factory? First post btw. I’m gonna try to be learning etiquette, etc. as I post. Thx.
