What a difference a set of knobs makes

I removed the black knobs that Gibson puts on the tributes and replaced them with a set like used on the standard. I also installed thumb bleeders. I like the look much better. I was going to cover the pickups but it sounds so good like it is I think I may leave the pickups alone. Probably I should take the plastic off the pickguard.

Knobs can contribute HUGELY to tone and sustain
(of course)...

I bought a set of volume knobs for my SG that go to 11...

these knobs give awesome tone and sustain...(of course)
...the only thing that's important about them is that they go to 11...

on my 2012 SG special '70s trib: the only thing that was important
was that the knobs were witch hats. If I could find a set of witch hats
that went to 11, I'd buy them straight away. But these are okay.

oh yeah, and the only other thing about knobs that's important
is whether they fit on the posts of your existing pots.

There are two kinds: coarse and fine knurling.

Never the twain shall meet. If you try and install knobs with
the wrong knurling on your prized Gibson, you are likely to break something.
(I learned this the hard way, of course)...

Don't do that. Make sure you know what knurling your knobs require,
and buy the appropriate knobs to fit. Don't bother with pointers,
they'll only make your fingers bleed when you least need this to happen.

I think there may be a exception. The Gibson pots used on the guitars with circuit boards are a bit different than the CTS. The splines are correct but the shafts on these pots are a bit thicker. The factory knobs came off hard and the new went on hard.

Gibson knobs should remain period/spec correct and are even more valuable if cracked. Like the finish they help the guitar breathe.

Does anyone ever do the switch washer around the output jack anymore? That always looks cooler than you-know-what,

I'm all about reflectors and pointers too. :thumb:
BTW, is that a 5 piece sectional couch? I bought one in that exact plaid pattern in '98. Gave it to a friend 5 years later.

My SG Special.
I put pointers on all 3 of my SGs.
