Too many to name, I'd have to say Eric Clapton (used an SG when he played with Cream, particularly on the Disraeli Gears and Wheels of Fire albums), Robbie Krieger of the Doors, George Harrison of the Beatles used an SG on songs like Paperback Writer, Lady Madonna, and Hey Bulldog, Pete Townsend of the Who.used an SG as his primary guitar in the late 60s, early 70s (you can see him playing one on the film for the Woodstock concert), Frank Zappa, Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead used one alot in the 1960s, Derek Trucks of the Allman Bros., Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, Mick Taylor, the lead guitarist for the Rolling Stones 69-75 often used one, and of course Angus Young of AC/DC. Too many guitar greats have played the SG for me to have one favorite.

The longest running SG player in history: Justin Sullivan of New Model Army.

Justin began his band New Model Army in 1979...and he used an SG.
43 years later, the band is still going strong, and Justin still uses an SG.

I always liked Robby Kreiger and noted he used an SG on those Doors tunes; but I never was really into that band enough to make me go out and buy an SG. But New Model Army has always been one of my favorite bands, so when I had the urge to add a Gibson guitar to my arsenal, I immediately went to the SG because of Justin Sullivan and New Model Army.

Frank Marino started in 1970 and played his SG's til last year when health issues forced his stopping tours so he beats your boy.

Probably Angus and Kreiger just because they were die hard SG guys while a lot of the others played a lot of other guitars besides the SG.

OK. I had to look up who exactly Frank Marino is. Mahogany Rush. I've heard of them. Did he really only play an SG from the '70s till he retired? I know for a fact that New Model Army's Justin Sullivan did. Sure he was on stage for a song or two with a Les Paul or a Strat, but for 43 years he really relied on an SG for his recording and stage life.

Good for guys like Sullivan and Marino. They find their soul in a particular instrument and stay with it.

Ah Samantha carrying the torch. Every now and then I kick myself for missing one of her local gigs several years ago. She can play a 2x4 with strings but she connects with her SG.
